প্রিয় শিক্ষার্থী, আজ ইংরেজি দ্বিতীয় পত্রের ৭ নম্বর প্রশ্ন অর্থাৎ Narration/Speech Change নিয়ে আলোচনা করব। এই প্রশ্নে একটি passage Indirect Speech দেওয়া থাকবে। প্রথমে Narration/Speech Change পরিবর্তনের নিয়ম অনুসরণ করে নিজেরা চেষ্টা করবে। তারপর উত্তর মিলিয়ে নেবে।
# Change the narrative style by using indirect speeches.
1.
The teacher said to the students, “Have you heard the name of Aesop?” The students said, “Sir, we have not. Who was he?” The teacher said, “Listen to my lecture attentively and you will be able to know about him. How interesting and instructive his fables are!”
Answer: The teacher asked the students if they had heard the name of Aesop. The students respectfully replied that they had not and asked the teacher who he had been. The teacher advised them to listen to his lecture attentively and they would be able to know about him. He also exclaimed with wonder that his fables were very interesting and instructive.

“Where are you going?” said the merchant. “I was coming to see you.” “What do you want?” “To earn my bread by the labour of my hands.” “Do you really want work?” said the merchant. “Yes, if you have any.” “Then follow me and carry a box from a shop to my house.” “I do not see how I can do that,” said the youth.
Answer: The merchant asked the youth where he (y) was going. The youth replied that he had been going to see him (m). The merchant again asked the youth what he (y) wanted. In reply, the youth told the merchant that he (y) wanted to earn his bread by the labour of his hands. The merchant then wanted to know if he (y) really wanted work. The youth promptly replied that he wanted work and requested to give if he (m) had any. The merchant then ordered him (y) to follow him (m) and carry a box from a shop to his (m) house. The youth expressed his inability saying that he (y) did not see how he could do that. Or, The youth said that he (y) did not see how he could do that.

“What kind of stories did Aesop tell?” asked Anwar. “Fables,” replied Mrs. Amin. “Do you know what fables are?” “No,” replied Anwar. “Well,” said Mrs Amin. “Fables are stories with a message or a moral.” “Who is Aesop and where does he live?” asked Anwar. “Aesop entertained people telling stories,” said Mrs Amin.
Answer: Anwar asked Mrs. Amin what kind of stories Aesop had told. Mrs. Amin replied that they were fables. She asked him if he knew what fables are. Anwar replied in the negative. Considering the fact, Mrs. Amin continued saying that fables are stories with a message or a moral. Anwar again asked who Aesop was and where he (Aesop) lived. In reply, Mrs. Amin said that Aesop had entertained people by telling stories.
