Right form of verbs
প্রিয় শিক্ষার্থী, আজ ইংরেজি ২য় পত্রের Right form of verbs আলোচনা করব। Verb-গুলো যখন sentence-এ ব্যবহূত হয়, তখন তা Sentence-এর ধরন, tense, subject প্রভৃতির প্রকৃতি অনুযায়ী পরিবর্তিত হয়। আর এ পরিবর্তনের নিয়মকানুনগুলো ধারাবাহিকভাবে নিচে আলোচনা করা হলো।
43. কোনো কাজ সংঘটিত হওয়ার ক্ষেত্রে যদি long duration যেমন for two hours/months/years অথবা since/form morning/last week ইত্যাদি উল্লেখ থাকে, তাহলে verb-টি Present Perfect Continuous Tense-এ হয়।
It (rain) for two hours.
Ans. It has been raining for two hours.
44. কোনো Sentence-এ have, has, had, get, go ইত্যাদি Verb causative verb হিসেবে কাজ করলে main verb-টি Past Participle হয়।
I got the house (paint).

Ans. I got the house painted.
45. ‘Lest’ conjunction-এর পরের clause-টির verb-এর পূর্বে should/might বসে এবং কখনো Negative হয় না। He studies hard lest he should make a good result.
46. While Adverb হিসেবে কাজ করলে While-এর ঠিক পরের verb-টির সঙ্গে ing যোগ হয়।
While (walk) along the road, I saw a dead body.
Ans. While walking along the road, I saw a dead body.
অপর দিকে while conjunction হিসেবে কাজ করলে while-এর পরের clause-টি সব সময় Continuous Tense হয়।
While I (watch) television, he came to our home.
Ans. While I was watching television, he came to our home.
47. Conditional sentence অর্থাত্ If-clause-এর Principal clause-এর Verb, Subordinate clause verb-এর Tense-এর ওপর নির্ভর করে।
a. If clause-টি যদি Present Indefinite Tense হয়, তাহলে Main clause-এর verb Future Indefinite Tense-এ হয়।
If + Present Indefinite Tense + Future Indefinite Tense.
If I have the money, I (buy) a computer.
Ans. If I have the money, I will buy a computer.
b. If clause-টি Past Indefinite Tense-এ থাকলে Main clause-এর Verb Future in the past অর্থাত্ Verb-এর would হয় এবং verb present might/could form-এ হয়।
If + Past Indefinite + Past conditional.
If I had the time, I (go) to market with you.
Ans. If I had the time, I would go to market with you.
If he didn’t speak so quickly, you (understand) him.
Ans. If he didn’t speak so quickly, you could understand him.
c. If clause-টির Verb Past Perfect Tense-এ থাকলে Main clause-এর verb-টি Past participle হয় এবং তার পূর্বে Would have/might have/could have বসে।
If + Past Perfect Tense + Perfect conditional.
If he had found the right buyer; he (sell) the house.
Ans. If he had found the right buyer he would have sold the house.
NB: But for-এর পরেও কর্তা + would have + pp হবে: But for your help I would have failed.
48. If + Past Perfect............structure-এর Sentence-টি Had + subject + verb (pp) দিয়েও শুরু হতে পারে। সেক্ষেত্রে Main clause-টির verb আগের মতোই হয়।
Ans. Had + Subject +verb (Past Participle) + Subject + would/could have + V (pp)
Had he found the right buyer, he would have sold the house.
49. কোনো Sentence-এর verb যদি তার Subject-এর number এবং person অনুযায়ী ব্যবহূত হয় অর্থাত্ Subject singular হলে verb singular হয় এবং subject plural হলে verb plural হয়। যেমন: Ans. The taste of mangoes is sour. (আমগুলোর স্বাদ টক)
The members on the committee are with different opinions.
50. কোনো sentence যদি there দ্বারা শুরু হয় এবং তারপর যদি singular number থাকে তাহলে there-এর পরে singular verb বসে। আর plural number থাকলে there-এর পরে plural verb বসে। যেমন—
Ans. There is a big field in front of the school complex.
There are so many roads in Chittagong.
# বাকি অংশ ছাপা হবে আগামীকাল
