Speech change 
প্রিয় শিক্ষার্থী, আজ ইংরেজি ২য় পত্রের 4 নং প্রশ্ন অর্থাৎ speech change নিয়ে আলোচনা করব। এই প্রশ্নে direct speech-এ একটি passage দেওয়া থাকবে। Passageটিকে তোমরা indirect speech-এ পরিবর্তন করবে। এর জন্য 4 নম্বর বরাদ্দ থাকবে। চলো passage narration-এর নিয়মকানুনগুলো জেনে নেওয়া যাক।

13. Direct speech-এ Assertive sentence-এর শেষে প্রশ্নবোধক চিহ্ন থাকলে Indirect speech করার সময় reporting verb-এর পূর্বে Being surprised লিখতে হয় এবং reporting verbটিকে ask/ asked দিয়ে পরিবর্তন করতে হয়। যেমন:
Direct speech: She said to me, ‘You have remembered how she looked all these years?’
Indirect speech: Being surprised, she asked me if I had remembered how she had looked all those years.
14. Direct speech-এ ‘Thank you’ থাকলে Indirect speech করার সময় Reporting verb-এর subject + thanked + reporting verb-এর object বসে। যেমন:
Direct speech: ‘Myn said to me, ‘Thank you.’
Indirect speech: Myn thanked me.
15. Direct speech-এ ‘Good bye’ থাকলে Indirect speech করার সময় reporting verb-এর subject + bade + object + good-bye বসে। যেমন:
Direct speech: Minhaj said, ‘Good bye my brother.’
Indirect speech: Minhaj bade his brother good bye.
16. Direct speech-এ Good morning/ Good evening/ Good night থাকলে Indirect speech করার সময় reporting verb-এর subject + wished + good evening/ good night/ good morning বসে। যেমন:
Direct speech: I said to him, ‘Good morning.’
Indirect speech: I wished him good morning.
17. Direct speech-এ অনেক সময় Sentence-এর প্রথমে so থাকে। এ ক্ষেত্রে Indirect speech করার সময় সাধারণত So-এর পরিবর্তে That is why ব্যবহূত হয়। যেমন:”
Direct speech: Rifa said to me, ‘I am unwell. So I will not go to school today.’
Indirect speech: Rifa told me that she was unwell and that is why she would not go to school that day.
18. Direct speech-এ অনেক সময় Sentence-এর প্রথমে but থাকে। এ ক্ষেত্রে Indirect speech করার সময় সাধারণত But-এর পরিবর্তে Express dissatisfaction ব্যবহূত হয়। যেমন:
Direct speech: The girl said, ‘How nice the picture is! I wish I could buy it.’ ‘But it is not durable and will break down in about a month,’ said her father.
Indirect Speech: The girl exclaimed with surprise that the picture was very nice and she wished to buy it. Her father expressed his dissatisfaction and said that it was not durable and would break down in about a month.
19. Direct speech-এ অনেক সময় সংক্ষিপ্ত উত্তর দেওয়া থাকে। এ ক্ষেত্রে Indirect speech-এ পরিবর্তন করার সময় পূর্ণ Sentence-এ লেখাই শ্রেয়। যেমন:
Direct speech: ‘Have you killed the rats?’ said the Mayor. ‘Yes, I have.’ said the piper.
Indirect speech: The Mayor asked the piper if he (p) had killed the rats. The piper replied in the affirmative and told that he had killed the rats.
