প্রিয় পরীক্ষার্থীরা, আজ ইংরেজি ২য় পত্রের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ প্রশ্ন tag questions—এর rules ধারাবাহিকভাবে আলোচনা করব।

Present and Past tense (continuous tense)-এ auxiliary verb হিসেবে ব্যবহূত to be verb-এর বিভিন্ন form-এর সাহায্যে tag question করতে হয়।
Example: 1) They are playing now, aren’t they?
2) You were not writing then, were you?

Principal verb হিসেবে ব্যবহূত have/ has/ had দ্বারা possession বোঝালে tag করার সময় have/ has/ had-ই ব্যবহূত হয়।
কিন্তু have/ has/ had দ্বারা possession না বোঝালে tense ও subject অনুযায়ী do/ does/ did ব্যবহূত হবে।
Example: 1) We had a car, hadn’t we?
2) I had an accident last week, didn’t I?

Statement-এ Subject-এর পর Modal Auxiliaries (can, could, may, might, must, ought to, shall, should, will, would) থাকলে সেগুলোর সাহায্যে tag question করতে হয়।
Example: 1) It might not rain, might it?
2) You must obey your parents, mustn’t you?

Imperative Sentence-এ affirmative এবং negative উভয় ক্ষেত্রেই will you বসে। তবে invitation-এর ক্ষেত্রে will-এর পরিবর্তে won’t-ও ব্যবহার করা যায়। যেমন: Take a seat, won’t you?
আবার Statement-টি Let us/ Let’s দিয়ে শুরু হলে tag question করার জন্য modal verb ‘shall’ সাহায্য নিতে হয়। কিন্তু Let এর পর us না থেকে অন্য person থাকলে সেক্ষেত্রে will you হবে।
Example: 1) Let us go for a walk, shall we?
2) Let him come here, will you?

অন্যান্য Subject হিসেবে indefinite pronoun যেমন: everybody, nobody, all, neither, somebody, anybody, someone, anyone, none, no one, every, no + personal noun প্রভৃতি থাকলে ‘they’ হবে এবং Their থাকলে ‘they’ হবে।
Example: 1) None can do it, can they?
2) Every mother loves her child, don’t they?
3) Somebody has stolen my pen, haven’t they?
4) There are many trees in the field, aren’t there?

Hardly, Scarcely, Few, Little, Neither, None, No one, Seldom, Barely ইত্যাদিকে Down toner বলে এবং negative অর্থ প্রকাশ করে বলে affirmative tag করতে হবে। A few, very few, very little থাকলে negative tag হবে।
Example: 1) Barking dogs seldom bite, do they?
2) She has little idea about it, has she?
3) There are few toys in the house, are there?
